anyone got this fix ?

it might be the reason to this applications overlay freezing when using teletext...

Hyperthreading is, after all, just a cheezy "wannabee-multiprocessor" .... so , running real multiprocessor might very well cause this problem !

- so ... anyone know how 2 get this fix without sending Bill more $$ ?

So You have to call Microsoft, give them the KB # (817589) and they will email you the fix. It's not for the general public yet because it hasn't gone through all the testing.

We have found a solution to make ChrisTV launch without any problem on Pentium 4 with HT Enabled(Hyper-Threading) or on Athlons above 2.6GHz under WindowsXP.

If you have received a Windows Fatal Error on ChrisTV launch or ChrisTV doesn't want to launch, then you should try the folowing :

Solution 1

In some cases in order to start ChrisTV on a Pentium 4 with HT system under Windows XP, one or more restarts are required to get Chris-TV up and running.

The solution is to follow this steps if you have Pentium 4 with HyperThreading under Windows XP (Home or Professional) :
a. select ChrisTV Shorcut and do a right click
b. select the Compatiblity TAB and select here : WinME or Win2000 mode.
c. save the modifications.
d. Now launch ChrisTV.

For more details about "Using Program Compatibility Mode" :

If this doesn't work, please check Solution 2

NO need to change compatibility mode like we recommended before and we hope there won't be any other error messages.

So here is the solution :
1. Download this file http://www.chris-tv.com/files/ChrisTV.sdb and save it (for example C:\Downloaded Files\ChrisTV.sdb)
2. Go to start button and choose Run...
3. Run : SDBINST.EXE C:\Downloaded Files\ChrisTV.sdb
4. Make sure that ChrisTV shortcut doesn't have compatibility mode enable, if it does then disable it.
5. Launch ChrisTV.

ChrisTV.sdb it's a custom compatibility database for ChrisTV Software will work with any ChrisTV.exe version.

Check this for more info about http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];308235.

(Thanks Nopik for his help to this solution:D)

Uninstall the SDB file : Run SDBINST.EXE -u C:\Downloaded Files\ChrisTV.sdb
And try to set the Compatiblity Mode to WinME for ChrisTV Shortcut, see the instructions in the above posts.

In ChrisTV 3.80 the support for Intel HyperThreading CPUs and AMDs CPUs above 2600 Mhz has been improved, there should be no more Windows fatal errors on ChrisTV launch smile.gif

Please make sure that you have updated to ChrisTV 3.80 and there shouldn't be problems anymore.
