Firewall block of Apple prevents download

I'm not referring to Link Finder, so emulation isn't the issue, but my Firewall blocks Apple sites which correspond to

AS20940
AS35994
(you can check the AS numbers out here: http://bgp.he.net)

...all of which are listed under the following domain:
init-p01st.push.apple.com

Is this failure to download when a block is placed on Apple expected behaviour for VideoTube Downloader?

If so, why?

When I disable the rule, the downloader works fine.
