I'd like to see an option to use plain old line doubling instead of using some kind of interpretive deinterlacing drivers.

On my system, using ChrisTV Lite with both add-on packages, DScaler and/or FFDShow both produced less than ideal results when viewing an interlaced feed. The picture seems to "jump" as it seems to alternate between scan lines when using the aforementioned deinterlacing options. Also, use of those filters seems to add a noticeable lag to display the image, which is not acceptable for video game use. I've tried both a CRT and an LCD display and get the same results. Here's my setup:

PlayStation 2 (NTSC version) connected via S-Video input on my Radeon X800XL VIVO AGP card
ChrisTV Lite with both add-on packages

Is it possible to implement a regular line doubling option that won't result in noticeable lag/buffering?

You should try to enable this settings :
- Use Advanced rendering mode in Program Settings->Video Rendering.
- Activate enhanced support for Combo Cards in Program Settings->Driver->Advanced->Additional Settings.
