ChrisTV is a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) Software designed to control analog TV Cards, Graphic Cards with Video Input (VIVO), Combo Cards (Graphic Card and TV Card), Webcams, DVcam Capture that have WDM Drivers(Windows Driver Model) compatible with DirectShow specifications.

If you have a TV Card with MPEG Hardware Encoding, then you should check this topic : Tips For For Mpeg Hardware Encoding Tv Cards - Image Quality and Sound Settings (if LivePreview Mode is not enabled).

Now about some additional tuning :
- Set Preview Format to 768x576 (or 640x480) and enable overlay mixer - use ChrisTV Quick Config Panel for that ( ChrisTV.exe /config )
- Enable Dscaler Deinterlace Filter (download it first from http://www.chris-tv.com/download.html )
- Adjust the Sharpness Level of the picture, by going to Program Settings->Image & Sound Settings.
-If you have unwanted lines (black and white dots) on the top or bottom of some channels use the Zoom Function to get rid of them : set the zoom to 1-3% and to the center of the image.

Also make sure you have the latest WHQL drivers for your Graphic Card :
- For NVidia Graphic Card Drivers visit this page : http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
- For ATI Graphic Card Drivers visit this page :http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

Some settings for the Deinterlace Filter in ChrisTV :
Deinterlace Type : Dscaler Plugin
Dscaler Plugin : DI_GreedyH.dll
(enable/disable : Is old field first option )

For more information about Deinterlace filters check this topic :
http://forum.chris-tv.com/index.pl=deinterlace <_<

Why does Dscaler have a better image quality ?
Dscaler works with it's own drivers and is working directly with the hardware, so you can end with your TV Card "burned" if there are some bugs in their drivers.ChrisTV works only on TV Cards with WDM/BDA Drivers - the one supplied by the TV Card manufacturer or any other WDM/BDA generic driver.

You can try the btwincap wdm generic driver ONLY for TV Cards with BT8x8 chipset which might give better results (check if your card is supported by it) - http://www.chris-tv.com/links.html. B)

Added in ChrisTv 3.80 :
NEW option "Use Advanced Rendering Mode" to improve the image quality on TV Cards that have only the capture pin (like Asus TV/FM and Combo Cards)

Heres another tip: if your antenna cable is poorly shielded it might be picking up noise from power cables or outlets. So either get a properly shielded cable or make sure the cable is not in contact/proximity to thiese.

This helped my image quality alot.

The tv-card might also be picking up noise from within your case. You could try putting it in a pci slot as far away from the cpu and other cards in your computer.

Good comments. I'll add that (obviously) the quality of the card can help. I now also have the comptro videomate ultra and it has a 3d comb filter in it and there is a significant quality difference between it and my asus tv/fm card which has the same chipset but no 3d comb filter etc... Highly reccomend the Comptro Videomate Ultra, and CHris-TV of course... :D

ChrisTV 4.60 comes with support for FFDShow DirectShow filter.

What is ffdshow?
It's a postprocessing filter with many nice options, it also is an audio and video decoder wich can nearly decode any audio and video format out there.

The main reason people use ffdshow else than decoding is the postprocessing features. You can resize the picture with various advanced routines (lanczos2-10, spline) wich grants better quality than overlay or vmr9 bicubic or hardware mode.

You have access to the latest dscaler & mplayer or whatever deinterlace routines. Tonns of denoise filters, sharpen, stuff like gamma control and much much more....

The support for this filter is available in ChrisTV Professional, Standard and Lite - "Add-On Plus 1" Package.

You can find download links for the latest FFDShow version, please check http://www.chris-tv.com/download.html
