Please provide some sample links you've downloaded while it crashed.

Try to uninstall the software, reboot your PC and install the software again.

Crashed three times in last three days; twice tonight.
After each crash I am asked my lifetime credentials that my trial period has expired. am thanked after entry each time
No updates to Windows this week. Windows 10 Pro 20H2, build 19042.685
Crashes occurred after, not during, YouTube downloads while YouTube would appear to just be idling.
Would it do any good to remove the program and reinstall?

Please provide some YouTube link samples you downloaded before the crash, from the download history.

Trying to pinpoint the cause. So lets try this instead:
Make sure VideoTube Downloader is closed and remove the history download database, but make a backup before deleting it:
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files (x86)\ChrisPC VideoTube Downloader Pro\ChrisPCTubeData.dat

i tried the uninstall, reboot and install again method you suggested.

after doing it downloaded a few videos which went ok. i then turned my PC off as i was going out for a few hours. On starting it up, i opened the Youtube Downloader - only to be prompted YET AGAIN for the registry activation code.

So it has nothing to do with program links. I cant see how you can say it's a random occurrence when it is doing it constantly to me, and probably many others too who don't bother to comment on the forum to highlight any issues which you normally resolve so quickly. There is obviously a flaw in the program - perhaps something to do with the recognition of the activation code?

The only time now it seems to work without a hitch (or this constant request for the activation code) seems to be for two weeks after installing the latest updated version, when the program assumes you're using it in Trial mode, which shouldnt be the case for a Lifetime license holder??

whatever the cause - its something that needs resolution as its been over two weeks since it was forst brought to your attention...

The issue has been reported by 6-7 users and it is random, only users with lifetime license.
As we can't replicate the issue, we can't fix it.

Trying to pinpoint the cause. Lets try this:
- Make sure VideoTube Downloader is closed.
- delete the history download database (make backup before deleting it):
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files (x86)\ChrisPC VideoTube Downloader Pro\ChrisPCTubeData.dat

- delete ChrisPCTube.xml file (make backup before deleting it):
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files (x86)\ChrisPC VideoTube Downloader Pro\ChrisPCTube.xml

Three crashes January 1st--none since. [HOPE]
Renamed the History .dat file the 1st when asked.. all has been calm since.. got my request from Chris the 1st before the request to another user for the additional delete. Decided to stick with the one until I see, or do not see, our friendly little dialogue. As of the morning of the 9th, no crashes and no registration boxes.

Knock on wood..
Your deletion of the 'dat' file seems to have done the trick. No crashes since the first of January and no registration windows have shown in the headlights.
Thanks Chris. Excellent detective work.

can this deletion thing be incorporated into the next (and future) updates? im very wary of deleting files as im not really that "techy" and am fearful of deleting something else which may render the program ineffective.

i dont see why it cant as in a way when we update we are re-installing the product anyway as it replaces existing files and code with the new "improved" version?

After deleting the "bak" file earlier in January as requested, VideoTube Downloader Pro ran Registration Request Free until the 19th when, after a Windows Update and restart, the request box returned. Figured I might as well then update to the latest build.. wait.. and see. The next day (the 20th) the Request repeated itself twice. This morning I again took the ".bak" file out of play and took out the "XML" file as well. The program started up beautifully and is now quietly running resident again. Checked the Help Registration window; registration data appeared correct and secure.
