You can improve the image quality by choosing the best MPEG Video Decoder available on your PC in Program Settings->MPEG Hardware Encoding.

We recommend to use the InterVideo MPEG Video and Audio Decoders.

Also there are some tweaks to improve the InterVideo Video Decoder image quality. You can download and run the intervideo_decoder.reg (windows registry file) attached to this post.

If your TV Card driver has also live preview mode ability (bypass MPEG Hardware Encoder), ChrisTV let's you improve image quality with Deinterlace filter and FFDShow filter, record in AVI and Soft MPEG Formats.

You can enable this option in Program Settings->MPEG Hardware Encoding->Use Live Preview Mode and restart ChrisTV. Also you should enable Force Audio Output if you don't have sound.

If your TV Card driver supports this feature, here are some tips to improve the image quality : http://forum.chris-tv.com/index.php?showtopic=248

For the MPEG Intervideo Audio Decoder you can force the settings.

If you create a DWORD value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intervideo\Common\AudioDec called AUDIO, you can then use the following values for your needs and they will be persistant.

0 = 2 speaker mono
1 = 2 speaker stereo
2 = 2 speaker surround upmix
3 = 3D audio
4 = 4 speaker
5 = 6 speaker (5.1)
6 = SP/DIF

In the attachement of this topic there is a sample to force the 4 Speaker Mode.

Why is the Recording Settings disabled in Program Settings ?

Because you are using a MPEG Hardware Encoding TV Card, you can record only in MPEG files generated by the hardware encoder device of your TV Card.
You can control the MPEG Hardware Encoding Recording by going to Program Settings->MPEG Hardware Encoding->Recording Settings.

Some TV Card drivers offer the option to have Live Preview, so you can Preview without using the MPEG Hardware Encoding.

If your TV Card driver has also live preview capture ability, ChrisTV let's you record in AVI and Soft MPEG Formats, also here are some tips to improve the image quality : http://forum.chris-tv.com/index.php?showtopic=248
