Hi everyone,

I just bought yesterday ASUS My Cinema P7131 TV card, after I sold TV@nywhere Master to my friend. I wanted to buy TV@nywhere Plus, since I needed a card that supports both NTSC and PAL, but couldn't find it, and I wasn't sure if this one supports both.
Lucky me, it does

I was thinking of Leadtek WinFast TV 2000XP, but wasn't sure if one model supports ALL formats, since all info about it isn't very clear.

Now, to the problems with the card.
The software that comes with it is awful, compared to the WinDVR 3.0 (in fact MSI PVS 3) I was using with TV@nywhere which had the list of ALL available channels, no matter if there is signal on it or not. I also could fine tune every channel separately, but in Cyberlink PowerCinema there was no way to do it.

So, after installing ChrisTV trial to test it, had to manually add channels, which wasn't that bad - it's done only once!

But the sound totally confused me. One moment it'd work, the other not. But, EVERY time I'd start recording, sound could be heard, but was distored.
After hours of playing around, following the advice on the forum, nothing helped.

But, after starting PowerCinema and re-scanning channels (and this time it discovered 30 channels instead of 9 the last time I tried), sound appeared in ChrisTV :)

But there was too much distorsion no matter what I'd do.
After searching for the problem, I found a setting I'd never think of:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio -> Sound Recording
and choose 713x BDA Analog Audio Capture, then click on Volume, and set the slider on around 30% of the max level (between 2nd and 3rd line). Then, close the volume control window, and choose Your sound card as recording device in the main window.
That's it, sound is not distored any more, and now I don't have any problems with the sound - it works every time I start ChrisTV!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. Although it's not logical, this option defines the sound volume during both play and recording. This option has nothing to do with sound level in:
ChrisTV -> Program Settings -> Image & Sound settings

History MD 8800 and MD 8808.
In November 2005, when the first MD8800's were shipped, it was quite a hassle to finally get the out-of-the-box MD8800 configuration working with ChrisTV, mainly due to problems with the system supplied "non-standard" nVidia 6700XL video card in combination with the 81.82 supplied driver.... bad video quality or no video at all, no sound, channel frequencies not found automatically, and more....
The March 2006 machines MD 8808 having the same video card will probably have the same problems as the 8800's (but have not been able to test this).
After one or two minor updates in December 05 and March 06, we had to wait until August 06 for new updates solving the problems once and for all.

New updates for MD 8800, August 2006.
On 2006.08.02 www.medion.co.uk has published
* a new Videocard driver nVidia GeForce 6 & 7 Series for Win 2000/Win XP, Version: 84.66 cert.2
* a new Soundcard driver Realtek High Definition Audio Codec (Driver only), Win 2000/Win XP, Version: R1.38 (WDM 5.10.0.5257)
* Make a note that only Medion Germany published the 2006.08.02 update of the TV Card driver... go to www.medion.de, click te same links as in the UK version of the site, look for TV Karten Hybrid Treiber Philips 7131/7134-Chipset, Win XP/Win XP Media Center, Version: 1.3.3.2

Here is how to get the Medion MD-8800 up and running with Chris TV without hassle.

Preparations
Be sure that:
* your copy of Windows has the most recent upgrades and patches installed and is virus and spyware free.
* you have the most recent copy of Chris TV software (4.95 at the moment of writing this)
* you upgraded your system with the following releases from medion.co.uk or medion.de
- Videocard Driver nVidia GeForce 6 & 7 Series, 02.08.2006 - Version: 84.66 cert.2
- TV Karten Hybrid Treiber Philips 7131/7134-Chipset, 28.06.2006 - Version: 1.3.3.2 (from www.medion.de only)
- Soundcard Driver Realtek High Definition Audio Codec (Driver only), 02.08.2006 - Version: R1.38 (WDM 5.10.0.5257)

Step 1
If that is OK, then go to the Chris TV Configuration Wizard (default: Start > All programs > Chris TV > Configuration wizard).
In the Welcome screen, click Next,
Select Combo Card - Graphic Card and TV Card > Next
In Video Capture Device accept the default settings > Next
Accept digitally streamed audio > Yes
In TV Image settings, consider setting Preview Frame size to 768 x 578, accept defaults for the first two buttons, select the third option: Activate Descaler Deinterlace Filter > Next
(the installation process will start if you do not have the filter already installed > follow the instructions and do the same choices once again until you come back here at this point, after installation)
Choose your Interface Language and Country, leave the other options unchecked > Next
Accept or change dave-folders > Next > Finnish

Step 2
Now open Chris TV, right click in the screen and go to Channel Settings, select Automatic Scan for TV channels > either by channel or by frequency (find out what works best for you) > in both cases, before starting a scan, click Advanced Settings > select the two first boxes (use secondary.. and alternative...).
It is likely that you will not find all available channels.... in that case you can add them manually by pressing the "Add new..." button in Channels Settings Window. You can also add Composite and S-Video inputs into the channels list.
More info can be found at Chris' scanning help page http://forum.chris-tv.com/index.php?showtopic=2185

You're done!

Hi,
After installing the new version of the drivers I tested the automatic scanning on my 8808. Before it did not locate any channel, now it locates 17 out of 34 (cabel) channels. That's an improvement but still a lot of manual work needs to be done to add the missing channels.

I still have a problem with the sound not being in sync with the images on a AVI recording. I tried all the suggestions in the different postings, FAQ, Tips etc, but with no success.

See my log file below.

Hope you can help out.

Thanks in advance,
LongJohn

I'm the moment i having some troubles with ChrisLite 5.50 on Windows 7 RC (build 7100 x64 bits) and my Medion Saa7131 Capture device.

Problem is that the composite connection is not showing any preview.
Plan is to connect any of my old composite consoles (snes, nes, gamecube) on th composite connectin to play it on the pc monitor.

I tried the EVR methode, but it wouldn't show anything. Screen stays always black

The device is installed correctly under Windows (with default driver).

I attached the log file
My thinking is that the problem lies in:

20:25:53.775: Inf - Preview Graph :
20:25:53.779: Inf - Filter : VideoWindow1
20:25:53.782: Inf - Filter : AVI Decompressor

20:25:53.796: Inf - Filter : 713x BDA Analog TV Tuner
20:25:53.799: Inf - END Preview Graph.

Well just in a matter of milliseconds the Preview Graph ends..

Im using a Nvidia GS8400 with 195.x latest driver from Nvidia.

Maybe this is an issue with the RC of W7?

EDIT:
Fixed this with a clean install of Windows 7 Retail.
Funny detail: The driver is the same but somehow the capture device was not selected??
